Aptech, a global computer and IT company with 65 centres in Nigeria, says it has successfully cut off 71% of cost of sponsoring a child in some foreign universities.
This is as the company said in Port Harcourt on Thursday, September 4, 2025, it spent N461m on scholarships to Nigerians students both locally and abroad.
Aptech Computer Education group also splashed N36m on scholarships in Port Harcourt in 2025 at the 17th edition of their Career Quest event in Port Harcourt.
The figures were unveiled by Seetham Thakuri, Assistant Vice President, Africa & Middle East.
Thakuri, who flew into Port Harcourt, Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, from Mumbai, in India for the 17th Career Quest event, explained in his keynote presentation at the highly attended pitch at the main hall of the Bougainvillea Hotel in the New GRA that the massive cost reduction came when the group floated its diploma and advance diploma certificate courses in Nigeria.
He said the admission is basically for a degree course which ends in some foreign universities especially in Middlesex University in North London. He said by this arrangement of only one year (final year) in the UK, the rest of the spending is done in Naira. By this, the tuition in Middlesex in the UK would be about N32m, according to fees chart shown by Middlesex University representatives at the event.
Other advantages of using the Aptech education plan he mentioned include seamless credit load transfer from Nigeria to the foreign partner universities, adequate preparation by students and their parents for the foreign component of the study, global career advantages, and acquisition of industry-ready skills.
He showed a survey that showed that over 72,000 Nigerians studied abroad in 2023 but that by 2024, the figure came down drastically to 46,000, and indication of high exchange rate of the Naira.
He said Aptech was supporting Nigerians going abroad to work with global skills, saying, to japa without skill is mere relocation.
Speaking earlier, Rajeev Venugopal, CEO of Aptech, who came in from Canada, disclosed how scarcity of jobs in Nigeria touched him so much that he resolved that skills to Nigerians would be the solution, thus, Aptech was brought to Nigeria 25 years ago.
He said he considered his mission accomplished because of thousands of Nigerian youths that have been trained by the computer education group which he said has so far trained 7.5m students worldwide.
In her presentation, Oluchi Nwagbara, regional manager in Nigeria for Middlesex University, explained the unique offerings of the university and how it is highly rated worldwide in many aspects of performance.
She said the university offers three thousand pounds as discount to students coming from Aptech. She disclosed the mouthwatering opportunities for excellent study, jobs while in school, and jobs after school, so long as all rules were obeyed.
Student groups presented the various skills they have so far learnt such as websites, applications (apps), games, and others.
